Governmental Affairs Office

The Florida Dental Association (FDA) is an advocacy center for organized dentistry and the FDA’s Governmental Affairs Office (GAO) is your direct contact for all things legislative and political. YOU can help determine how successful your lobbying team is at the end of each legislative session and year round with regulatory bodies such as the Board of Dentistry. Your local grassroots efforts are essential to building relationships with your legislators and regulators who will help foster the understanding of dentistry and the significant role oral health plays in overall health. Meeting with legislators in your district throughout the year gives you their undivided attention, allows them to ask pertinent questions about dental issues and gives you the opportunity to educate them on dental issues.

Remember, you are the dental expert. Your legislative leaders are elected to represent a vast amount of interests throughout their district. Regulators, such as members of the Board of Dentistry, are responsible for ensuring the safe delivery of dental care within Florida.

Your GAO staff is equipped with written information that is routinely shared with legislators and regulators. However, your personal stories and real-world examples of how potential changes in the law could impact your ability to practice and the potential impact that these changes could have on access to dental care resonates more than you could imagine. At the end of the day, many lawmakers will go see their dentist for their routine check-up and will be held accountable for their actions. Hopefully you took the opportunity to contact them to help them make an informed decision.

The FDA’s GAO is always available to help you with contacting those in government who may affect your practice and the care you deliver. Many times GAO staff is available to attend dental meetings, fundraisers and award presentations to help develop relationships with legislators and others who live and work in your area. We are your resource to provide you with direction and suggestions on successful strategies. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you for your commitment and dedication to organized dentistry.
